Welcome
FINAL DAY
The last day started with a light wind and sunshine and the end results seem to be clear. These four days we have had all kinds of wind; gusty, strong, shifting and light. This last day was starting with a shifting wind. The first start ended up as a General Recall, but at the next start the Japanese took a first position and kept it well. The second and last race was won by the Dutch.
The Netherlands won two medals; Gold and Bronze. Gold for Rolf de Jong and Esther Pothuis (NED 961), they defended their position well and were far in front of the others. Silver for Thorsten Willemsen and Lena Roehr (GER 407), they never lost their second position. Bronze for Guido Sol and Kristina Gruendken (NED 1341), they fought till the last day and ended up with the same points as Heiko Riffeler and Matthias Riffeler (GER 368). But since Guido Sol and Kristina Gruendken had two first places and Heiko Riffeler and Matthias Riffeler had only one first position, the bronze medal went to the Netherlands.
Day 3: Results and dayreport - Thursday 29th July
Morning started with much wind, rescuers predicted a tough job for themselves. White crests were showing on the waves, waves were spraying in the wind. It took some time to get everyone safely on the water.
The first start ended in a ‘General Recall’, everyone miscalculated the increasing wind. Wind started at 15 knots. At the third race the wind speed increased to 23 knots with gusts of 26 knots. Some boats already decided to resign from the race and return to the harbor. Other had technical problems, like a broken mast, and were pulled back to the harbor. A lot of boats capsized. One boat even got stuck on the anchor line of the lineboat and ended up on top of the line boat.
A heavy day of sailing, some damage and some very good results. All in all a very good sail day. Tomorrow is the last race day with two races.
Rolf de Jong and Esther Pothuis kept their first position well, same as Thorsten Willemsen and Lena Roehr (second position) and Heiko and Matthias Riffeler (third position).

Day 2: Dayreport - Wednesday 28th July
The day started as a beautiful sail day: wind & sunshine! 12 to 15 knots wind, this promises a good day. 41 boats went on the water, pressure was on. Three races were sailed and boats regularly capsized caused by waves, wind and boat handling.
Surprisingly, the youth teams performed well on this water. Sailing 4 days under these conditions is a challenge. The FJ class is developing enthusiastically like never before.
The leaders of the championship kept their position. Rolf de Jong and Esther Pothuis (NED 961) defended their first position with a second, fourth and second place. Thortsen Willemsen and Lena Roehr (GER 407)kept their second position with a fifth , second and first place. There are a lot of changes of positions in the result list, due to stronger wind today. The competitors were spread out across the race course.
There will be three races on Thursday and two on Friday. This evening the competitors will duel each other in a friendly beach soccer game.
Day 1 - Dayreport & Results Available
Tuesday July 27th
After a good breakfast at the “Lis” (old Dutch sailing vessel (Tjalk)), the reporters went on the water around 9:30AM. First they had to pick up the radio were after they escorted the competitors to the racing area. Because of no wind all the rescue and jury boats escorted some FJ’s to the starting area.
When they arrived, there was no wind at al. So it was waiting for wind. After 45 minutes wind arrived and the starting line was prepared and marks were placed. This took a lot of time because of the changing wind direction.
The first regatta was won by the Japanese team. The coach was very delightful to see his team winning. During second and third race the wind increased to about 14 knots. The second race was won by a Dutch team; Rolf de Jong and Esther Pothuis, The third race was won by Thorsten Willemsen and Lena Roehr.

The reporters arrived at the yacht club (KNZ&RV at Muiden, Netherlands) around 10:00 AM. Measurement & registration was still in process. Around 12:30 PM all participants were on the water for the practice race.
The conditions were great; about 15 knots wind to 20 knots.
Most of the participants went on the water for the practice race around 1:00 PM. The starting vessel took position about 2 miles above Muiden, near the Island of Pampus. Soon the starting vessel initiated the starting procedure. At the upwind mark some boats already capsized, still the regatta was finished after three rounds. Afterwards all the boats returned to the harbor.
The official opening ceremony of the EC took place around 6:00 PM. The opening was done by the Principal Race Officer Henk Sol. Eight flags were hosted, one for every competing country: Slovenia, Japan, Italy, Germany, Belgium, USA, Luxemburg and the Netherlands. In total 45 teams. The ceremony was closed by a canon shot and the dinner was opened.
In the evening even a birthday celebration party took place of two German competitors. All together, it was a unexpected and pleasant closing of the day.
